Westfield HS Mentors
Deer Park ES partners with Westfield HS to form our WHS Mentor Program. High school students from the Peer Helping class are matched with elementary students to form a mentoring relationship that supports students’ social and emotional growth.
Typical mentoring activities include playing board games, hands-on arts & crafts activities, reading, and outside fun, such as tossing a ball or using sidewalk chalk. High school students are carefully vetted for this program at the high school level and undergo a rigorous application and interview process. Several schools in our community participate. This relationship benefits both students immensely, as the younger student has a caring, consistent mentor and the high school students learn the importance of community stewardship.
Mentoring is available through our FCPS MentorWorks program.
