Congratulations to Principal Melissa Miller who was recognized at the annual FCPS Honors event as the 2019 Region 5 Outstanding Leader and one of five finalists for this year's Outstanding Leader Award!

Melissa MillerMs. Miller is an encouraging leader with the reputation of being a “superwoman.” By making the needs of others her top priority, Ms. Miller has created an atmosphere of trust and caring which supports others to excel. As a leader, she is gifted at always making others feel appreciated as she creates a caring culture; empowering and enabling people to see beyond themselves. She has initiated family coaching calls, open library nights, math and literacy nights to engage and empower our families to support student learning. “With her continued focus on relationships, instruction, and family engagement,” said a colleague, “Ms. Miller is committed to creating a school that is not only built for student success, but is a place where staff love to work.”

Congratulations to Third Grade Teacher Allison Omohundro who was recognized at the annual FCPS Honors event as the 2019 Region 5 Outstanding Elementary Teacher and one of five finalists for this year's Outstanding Elementary Teacher Award!

Allison OmohundroMs. Omohundro has that magical and perfect balance where people, both kids and adults, want to be around her. She is fun and engaging and impacts the world beyond her classroom. She instills a desire to learn as each of her third grade students is given responsibility and autonomy for their own learning. Ms. Omohundro's students know exactly what is expected of them, and are provided with the tools, guidance, and empowerment to achieve great learning. Just one example, Ms. Omohundro often posts multiple learning targets derived from exit tickets or conferences, and students select the one they will be working on during the lesson. This differentiation allows each student to own success. She works to encourage student talent and grow self esteem.
