Mentoring Program at Deer Park
Educators at Deer Park Elementary developed an after-school mentoring program for students who have demonstrated the need for extended learning time to reach their full academic potential. Each week, teacher Allison Omohundro, along with several colleagues, volunteer their time to read and practice math skills with the students. Dubbed the After-Hour Kid Power program, mentors help students develop skills and strategies for math and reading. Snacks and water bottles for the program are donated by local churches and staff members. Contact news liaison Leeza Wisniewski at @email.
