WDPES Morning News Show

A crew of 8 students runs the live morning news show. Students behind-the-scenes work the cameras, the green screen slides, the audio, the teleprompter and the Zoom meeting which broadcasts to the entire school. Students who want to work “on camera” can be a news anchor, a weather reporter or our Character Counts reporter. The news show hosts special guests, such as Principal D’Amato, Assistant Principal Hitz, Officer Meg, or students who want to talk about a great book they read in our “What Are You Reading?” segment.

On-air reporters are responsible for writing their script each week. Every day reporters share a special Character Counts message, the daily weather report, a special daily news segment (example: What Day Is It?, Funny Friday, or Wacky Word Wednesday), current cultural holidays and news from around the school.

At the end of 5th grade, interested students can fill out an application to join the news crew in 6th grade. Applicants should have strong citizenship grades, be responsible and respectful, and must be able to arrive at school by 8:30 a.m. On-air reporters need to be able to read the teleprompter in a loud, clear voice with a smile!
